TALK A MILE 4
We had an opportunity to bring some new voices into Talk A Mile in June. Students were busy with finals and graduations, so we invited Black nonprofit, community and business leaders to walk, talk, listen and learn with Portland Police Bureau advanced academy trainees on a beautiful afternoon in Laurelhurst Park.
By all accounts, it was a success. The broad array of organizations, ages and life experiences represented by our community members was quite a sight to see. Several participants expressed gratitude for the opportunity to connect with other people doing great work in Portland. According to our post-event survey, 100% of respondents report that, “As a Talk A Mile participant, I felt seen and heard.” Using a scale 1 to 10 for likelihood to recommend the experience to their peers, this event scored 9.55.
We appreciate everyone bringing an open mind and a willingness to walk, talk, listen and learn. Thanks to The Big Yard, Central City Concern, Blaire G. Hervey, Friends of the Children, Central Catholic High School, Black Business Association of Oregon and the Portland Police Bureau for taking these first steps with us.
